Local MP Norman Lamb has given his full backing to a community composting scheme that is run by residents from Trunch.

The scheme which sees residents collecting green waste from the village recently won a North Norfolk "Environmental Community Category Award." It involves a regular collection from local households and half a days sorting and sifting a week to prepare for composting.

Norman said "What's better still for the village is that they receive £46.50 per tonne in credits from the County Council for collecting the waste. The waste is then left to compost over time and once completed, bags of very high quality compost are sold by the scheme."

"At the last count the village has raised over £2500 from the scheme. This is certainly something other local communities should consider. It's good for the environment and great for village funds too!"

The scheme took off after support from local farmers and businesses, Lottery awards for all, Norfolk Community Foundation, Grass roots and the Griffon Partnership.

Norman visited the scheme on 7th November to see it in action after hearing about the great work from several local residents.
